Our Story

Holistic Fungi is a women owned, small-batch herbal/botanical dietary supplement company based in Durango, Colorado. Founded in 2023 by Katie Simons, PharmD, BCPS, Holistic Fungi offers pharmacist-formulated functional mushroom blends designed for people who want clean, science- backed and delicious products they can trust.

Katie Simons, PharmD, BCPS

Katie created the company after struggling to find an alternative that delivered meaningful amounts of mushrooms without unnecessary additives, and most importantly tasted good. Drawing from her clinical background and working in her home apothecary (a.k.a. her kitchen!), she developed our signature formulation, m³: my morning mushrooms, with three carefully selected mushrooms—lion’s mane, cordyceps, and tremella—each included at full 1 gram per serving. She paired these with supportive superfoods like cacao, maca root, and mesquite to create a powerful, all-natural blend that supports focus, energy, and skin health.

Crystal Fenwick, PhD

In 2025, Crystal Fenwick, PhD, a scientist and engineer, joined the company to help support its growth. After being diagnosed with Hashimoto’s in 2020, Crystal began studying the gut-brain axis, inflammation, and nervous system regulation, ultimately discovering the health benefits of mushrooms. Like Katie, she found the market lacking, so she began crafting her own blends at home. Daily mushroom supplementation played a key role in helping her restore balance. When the opportunity arose to join Holistic Fungi, the partnership was a natural fit.
